Meet on orchid plants begins today
Guntur: Acharya Nagarjuna University is conducting an international seminar on orchid plants, on the ANU premises from February 9 to 11, according to ANU vice-chancellor Prof A Rajendra Prasad.
The seminar director, SM Khasim said that the seminar would discuss significance of orchid plants and the need to protect them. He said that Botany and Micro Biology departments would be jointly conducting the seminar and added that so far they received 600 research papers on it.
He said that there were 70,000 varieties of orchid plants which were being used for medicinal purpose. There is need to protect the medicinal plants. He said that awards would be given for best research papers in the seminar. He informed that scientists from Thailand, China and Bangladesh would participate in the seminar. Dr Ammani, Dr Mallikarjuna Rao, Dr Umamaheswara Rao were among those participated in the programme.
