Andhra Hospital completes 220 heart surgeries for kids

Vijayawada: Paediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgical camp organised by Heart and Brain Institute of Andhra Hospital in association with Healing Little Hearts, UK team concluded here on Friday.

Speaking to the media persons, Andhra Hospital Managing Director Dr PV Ramana Murthy said that children’s heart surgeries were being done regularly for the past two years and Healing Little Hearts, UK team had come twelve times so far in the past two years and many complex heart surgeries had been done with their association with 100 percent success.

Chief of children’s services Dr PV Rama Rao said that about 220 children suffering complex heart problems were operated successfully in the past two years with the collective team effort of Paediatric Cardiology, Cardiac Surgical team and Paediatric Intensive Care team from Andhra Hospitals along with UK doctors team.

He said that the 11th camp was held from January 22 to 27 and the twelfth camp was held from February 4 to 9. A few surgeries had taken 6 to 7 hours and it took 16 hours for another surgery, he added. These complex surgeries were performed on babies less than one month old, he informed.

Dr Ramana Dhannapuneni, Dr Vikram, Dr Amal Bose, Dr Naveen Raj, Dr Petr Jirasek, Dr Krishna Prasad, Kalai Mani, Manuela Mampieri, Victoria, Carla Thomas, Paola Mollese, Suzahne Shaw, Dr Dilip, Andhra Hospitals cardiac surgeon, Dr Sreemannarayana, Cardiologist, Dr Ramesh Cardiac Anaesthetist and doctors, paramedical staff were present.
