Local bodies urged to pay cess to libraries
Eluru: A meeting of the Literary, Cultural, Linguistic, Art Fields United Forum was held at Sahitya Mandali building here on Sunday. Sahiti Mitrulu president Lanka Vennkateswarlu presided over the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Lanka Venkateswarlu suggested the Government to conduct the correspondence in government educational, legal and financial deparments in the Telugu language only. He also requested the government to direct the libraries to purchase the books published by poets and writers.
Lella Venkateswara Rao, Andhra Pradesh Libraries Association district committee president Lella Venkateswara Rao said that the local bodies have to pay the library cess collected from the public to the libraries. He requested the local bodies to pay the library cess and the arrears to the libraries for their survival. He also suggested the government to establish mobile libraries for the women, students and rural readers.
Helapuri Artists Association president Pedapati Ramakrishna suggested the government to establish Cultural and Arts Centres (Samskritika Kala Kendram) in every district headquarters. Rashtriya Upadhyaya Pandita Parishad State president T Giri Raju requested the government to appoint the language pundits who underwent special training to teach Telugu, Hindi and English languages in elementary and high schools. The government should conduct the appointments accordingly.
District Writers Association general secretary Nagastra said that the United Forum would conduct “Matrubhasha Parirakshana Deeksha” in Eluru on February 18. He said that about 25 associations of various cultural, literary and Arts extended their support. He called upon the people to make it a big success.
Andhra Pradesh Language Movement organisation district general secretary M Srinivas, Balala Sahitya Peetham president L Prakasha Rao, Nrityanjali Kalaniketan president G Rajesh, RASANA treasurer Konda Ravi, Awardee Teachers Association general secretary Srihari Kothi, Telugu Bharathi representatives Raja Kumar, Sripada Vallabha Kuchipudi Nilayam president M Sirisha addressed the meeting. KB Rao, T Rajababu, BS Narayana, G Sudheer, Lal Nehru and other leaders also participated. Sahitya Mandali general secretary P Purushotham proposed a vote of thanks.
