Yandamuri to pen book on eye donation

Kakinada: “I am going to write a book on the importance of eye donation and it certainly needed at this hour,” said noted Telugu writer Yandamuri Veerendranadh here on Sunday.

He participated as the chief guest in Badam Bala Krishna Eye Bank’s 11th anniversary celebrations on the eye bank premises. Speaking on the occasion, Yandamuri informed that every year there was a need for two lakhs corneas in our state. But it was an unfortunate thing that people’s participation was less than one percent in donating the corneas. 

Yandamuri further stated that not only the eyes but also the eyelids also important in protecting the eyes. He cited a blind person who wrote a book by blinking his eyelids as one blink for the letter A, two blinks for the letter B and so on. He also cited a Buddhist monk's story in this connection.

Speaking on the occasion, Badam Bala Krishna Eye Bank chairman Bala Krishna urged the people to donate eyes as they were precious and cannot be produced outside. He further told that to run this eye bank they need the support of the donors. Later, the organisers felicitated the motivators who motivated people to donate their eyes. 

They felicitated the TDP leader and Vigilance and Monitoring Cell Member Dhulipudi Venkata Ramana (Bobby) as the best motivator in the village on eye donation. They appreciated the families of the cornea donors in this connection and felicitated with garlands. Noted ophthalmologist Sankurathri Chandra Sekhar and others participated in the event.
