Kakinada: Seeking justice, the parents and relatives of a pregnant woman who died in Kakinada staged a dharna at Vara Lakshmi Hospital at Pithapuram on Wednesday. The parents of Ponnada Durga Bhavani (20) who died in Kakinada on February 13 alleged that Dr Vara Lakshmi of Vara Lakshmi Hospital had misled them  resulting in patient’s death.

The parents, Kanna Babu and Suryavathi and some of their relatives, squatted before the hospital and raised slogans against the hospital and their ‘wrong treatment’. They informed that their daughter regularly visited the hospital and she was taking medicines under the supervision of the doctor since her pregnancy was confirmed. They alleged that the doctor had given wrong treatment which led the death of their daughter. They demanded the authorities to take severe action against the ‘erring doctor’.

Speaking to ‘The Hans India,’ Dr Vara Lakshmi said that Ganga Bhavani came to their hospital when she was away from Pithapuram on February 3. The hospital staff told her to undergo some tests which revealed Bhavani’s actual health position. Dr Vara Lakshmi said that jaundice was found in those tests and their staff immediately referred her to Government General Hospital in Kakinada on the same day. She does not know what happened thereafter.
