Action recommended against MPDO for NREGS fraud

Guntur: The district administration suspended nine employees working on contract basis in the District Water Management Agency for committing irregularities in executing National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) works including laying of roads, construction of culverts in Nuzendla mandal of Guntur district. 

The Social Audit unearthed Rs 80 lakh worth irregularities in the civil works. Based on that, the district administration suspended them and issued orders to this effect. According to DWAMA officials, the suspended included assistant project officer, engineering  assistant, two computer operators, four technical assistants and another technician. 

They recommended disciplinary action against the Nuzendla MPDO for committing irregularities and sent the report to the Panchayat Raj Commissioner D Ramanajaneyulu. They have issued charge memos to the two APDs. After getting the replies from them, they will take further action.

Speaking to ‘The Hans India’, DWAMA project director P Srinivas said, “In Nuzendla mandal, irregularities committed in  executing  the NREGS works. They have taken up repairs to the old roads and shown as new roads. They have taken up repairs to culverts shown as new roads. Social audit revealed irregularities in the NREGS works. Based on that we have suspended nine employees working on contract basis. They have not submitted M Book for Rs 8 lakh works. 

We have recommended action against thee Nuzendla MPDO.  We have issued charge memos to the two APDs so far. I will take stern action against those who committed irregularities in the MNREGS works and book criminal cases. We will recover the money under the Revenue Recovery Act.”
