Vijayawada: Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Student Federation of India (SFI) demanded that the Union government provide Special Category Status and implement bifurcation promises. A signature gathering programme was organised in this connection at Makineni Basava Punnaiah Stadium in Ajit Singh Nagar here on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, DYFI state secretary M Surya Rao said unemployed youth were committing suicide as there were no jobs. Similarly, industrialists were not establishing their units as there was no Special Category Status. As per the bifurcation act, the Railway Zone should be announced to AP within six months of bifurcation. He accused the ruling NDA government of not sanctioning Central University and Girijana University to AP during the last four years.

He blamed the state government for accepting the special package initially and now contradicting its decision. He was critical of the ruling party for saying now that it was ready to fight for Special Category Status. He further said that in the coming elections, the voters of the state would teach fitting lesson to the BJP and TDP. DYFI state members T Praveen, SK Nizaam, A Arun, Ravi, Malli and others were present.
