Cops detain ASHA women on Women’s Day
Bhimavaram: The police detained Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) who were ready to board a train, as part of Chalo Vijayawada call given by their State committee on Thursday. The activists reached the Bhimavaram town station to go over to Vijayawada this morning. However, the police stopped them before entering the railway station and shifted them to Two-Town police station.
Knowing about the detention of the ASHA, the AIDWA district secretary, D Kalyani reached the police station and interacted with them. She described the police action against the women activists as a shame and stated that on International Women’s Day the police had detained the workers. The Government had neglected the ASHA women who had been extending medical services to pregnant women and children in the rural areas.
It was not correct on the part of Government to use police force against the women who want to agitate peacefully for their rights. CITU leaders BV Varma and B Anajenylu also addressed them. Later, they discussed with police officials to ensure their release.
