Study tours to waste public money, BSP flays RMC
Rajamahendravaram: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) state coordinator Barre Anand Kumar has alleged that the Mayor, officials and corporators of the municipal corporation went for pilgrimage in the guise of study tour, by spending an amount of Rs 30 lakh of corporation funds.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, he said that as many as 28 corporators with their families and 12 officials participated in the tour programme by spending corporation funds. They spent more time to visit temples in that respective areas, instead of using that time to study the development activities there.
Usually study tours would be organised in the first or second years as there was abundant time to implement the development activities they studied. But, the corporatos went to study tour in the fourth year.
Due to lack of prior information to Chennai and Puducherry corporations, the team spent only 30 minutes, where as they spent two-and-a-half- hours in Mahabalipuram and spent two hours to visit Vinayaka temple in Puducherry, he added. In Madurai corporation, the officials tried to brief about solid waste management but the team hurriedly came out to visit Meenakshi Temple, he told. Corporator Anu Heniliya was present.
