Unemployed PETs take out rally

Vijayawada: A majority of college-going youth have been committing suicide due to lack of mental and physical strength, said Andhra Pradesh Unemployed Physical Education and Training Federation (APUPETF) secretary E Devendra Goud.

The APUPETF members from across the state organised a hunger strike camp here on Monday, demanding that the government solve their problems and fill the PT and PET posts across the state. The APUPETF members also took out a rally from Railway Station to Dharna Chowk.

Speaking on the occasion, Goud said that to transform the present youth into healthy citizens of the country, Physical Education and Training (PET) was very essential.
He demanded that the government implement GO 29 and appoint one PD and PET for every 400 students and develop physical literacy. Appoint one PET in each upgraded upper primary school. As per service rules GO 74, 30 percent recruitment should be done directly, he said.

The agitators wanted that PETs should be appointed in all educational intuitions and PET course should be included in the course curriculum. All the educational institutions should provide playground and encourage PET, they added. APUPETF president Mohan Goud, other members R Ramesh, D Chandra, Gangadhar, N Yova Raj, hundreds of BPED and MPED and others participated.
