Helmet must for bike riders: DTC

Guntur: Deputy Transport Commissioner GC Rajaratnam, directed all the two-wheeler riders to wear helmet following rise in road deaths involving bikes.

He informed that two-wheeler riders who were not wearing the helmets die in 65 per cent of road accidents and added that 396 persons died in the road mishaps for not wearing the helmets. He said, 1,296 road accidents registered in the district so far this year.
He said that transport department in association with police launched a special drive to book cases against the bike riders without helmets in the city.

The teams would check the bikes at important traffic points and book cases against the bike riders. They would send the e-chllanas to their residences. He said that the bike riders who do not wear the helmet, would have to pay a penalty of Rs 600 and  urged the two wheelers to wear helmet for their safety and cooperate with the department.
