4 held for sale of illicit liquor
Rajamahendravaram: Excise and Prohibition Police have arrested as many as four persons who were selling illicit liquor and destroyed as many as 2,300 litres of jaggery wash in raids conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday. The raids were conducted in Namavaram, Punyakshetram and Sri Krishnapatnam of Rajamahendravaram Rural mandal under the aegis of Assistant Commissioner K Hemanth Nagaraju.
According to him, so far in this month in the district, under Navodayam programme, 295 cases were registered against illicit liquor producers, transporters and traders and 220 were arrested. A total of 1,672 litres of illicit liquor, as many as 17,645 kgs of black jaggery and eight vehicles were seized, that were used for transportation of the illicit liquor. About 83,000 litres of jaggery wash was destroyed.
