Preventive steps of cops reduce accidents: SP

Kakinada: District Superintendent of Police Vishal Gunni has said because of planned efforts of the East Godavari police, the accident rate has reduced by 13 percent in February when compared with January.

In a press release here on Thursday, Gunni stated that they had registered 324 drunken drive cases in February and collected Rs 50 lakh through fines from the rash drivers and for improper maintenance of records under MV Act. He informed that 15 road safety vehicles were on vigil at all the important junctions on the national high ways in the district.

He said that they were conducting a ‘face washing’ drive to the lorry and truck drivers who drive vehicles at night time at the accident-prone areas in the district. He also said that they had constructed speed breakers at important junctions in the district where the service roads meet the highways. 

They had arranged floodlights and signboards in the identified black spots in the district. A majority of the accident deaths were due to non-wearing of helmets. “Wearing helmet is mandatory and the police will counsel the parents about this,” he added.
