YSRCP leads highway blockade in Prakasam dist
Ongole: The opposition parties led by the YSR Congress, bared the scorching sun and blocked the national highways going through the Prakasam district on Thursday. The ruling party, TDP, though announced support to the blockade, didn’t participated in it along with others.
At Ongole, the YSR Congress leader, Singaraju Venkata Rao and others blocked the National Highway 16 at Kargil Petrol Bunk along with the cadres and leaders from the CPI and CPM.
They took control of the highway and obstructed the movement of vehicles for more than half-an-hour. The TDP cadre also blocked the NH 16 individually at Koppolu layout near Ongole and demanding that the Centre accord the Special Category Status.
At Markapuram, the Jana Sena, CPI, CPM and other public fronts staged protest on NH 565 under the leadership of the local MLA Janke Venkatareddy. They sat in the sun and raised slogans in support of the Special Category Status to the state.
At Kondapi, Varikuti Ashok Babu took the lead to block the highway at Jarugumalli while the CPI and CPM followed him. The police arrested Ashok Babu and released him after clearing the traffic. Dr Amruthapani, senior YSRCP leader and his party men blocked the road at Eepurupalem near Chirala for nearly an hour.
At Giddalur, the YSRCP in-charge IV Reddy, AITUC district president Md Ibrahim, CPI convener D Pullaiah, CPM, Raitusangham and other organisation leaders and cadre blocked the highway at Taticharla Motu junction. The police arrested the leaders for blocking the traffic more than one hour and released on station bail.
At Kanigiri, the YSR Congress, CPI, CPM, AIYF and others blocked the national highway for nearly an hour.
