Vijayawada:  Doctors from Vijayawada participated in the Indian Medical Association Mahapanchyat held at Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi, opposing proposed National Medical Council (NMC) on Sunday. The same was shared with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) members here on Monday.

IMA secretary Dr Rasik Sanghvi shared their experience with other doctors about the nationwide protest against NMC bill. He said the national president Dr Ravindra Wankhedkar visited Vijayawada branch and motivated them to join this Mahapanchyat recently.  He said a cycle rally was also organised here on March 11, by the members of IMA on the same.

He said that about 40 doctors and 40 medical students left for Delhi from Vijayawada dressed in Blue Jersy. He said that doctors reached Indraprastha Marg and culminated in Indira Gandhi Stadium about 2 kms away.

He said about 25,000 doctors from across India joined in the protest. They strongly opposed the bill saying that it was anti-poor and pro-rich. He said if the bill comes into existence, young doctors would be ruined besides increase in malpractice and corruption.

He said that the meeting concluded with national president Ravindra Wankhedkar passing a resolution that if the government does not stop the bill, the doctors would observe strike on April 2.
