CPM seeks action against aqua mafia
Bhimavaram: CPM Delta District Committee secretary B Balaram alleged that the aqua mafia occupied half of the delta area in the district by digging the fish ponds. He visited Juvvalapalem village in Palakoderu mandal where the villagers obstructed the digging of the fish pond in the midst of the houses.
Addressing the villagers, the CPM Secretary said if the digging of the fish ponds continued unabatedly, no land for the paddy fields would be available in the delta.
He stated that without any permission, the illegal aqua ponds were being dug in the fertile lands that yield two crops in the delta area. Due to this, the neighboring fertile lands were becoming useless for the cultivation. This would lead to unemployment of thousands of families and this was also leading to migrations.
He alleged the MLAs, MPs, officials and local representatives were bribed by the aqua mafia. He demanded the government to take immediate action against the aqua mafia or otherwise delta would be in the grip of aqua pollution.
If no action was taken, a district level agitation will be taken up, he warned. CPM district leaders JNV Gopalan, Gorla Ramakrishna, Gedela Apparao, Tirumani Srinivas participated.
