SRKR students’ project design gets award from TCS

 Bhimavaram: Reputed software company TATA Consultancy Services (TCS) has selected the ‘solar-powered wheelchair controlled by voice commands for differently-abled persons’ design as the best project for the year 2016-17. The project was designed by SRKR Engineering College of Bhimavaram Mechanical Engineering students.

The students, V Navya Geetika, U Durga Prasad, K Krishna Teja and PV Gopiraju received the gold medals and a cash prize of Rs 5,000 each from TCS regional head and vice-president (Hyderabad unit) V Rajanna, at a programme held in Hyderabad TCS unit.

The dean (placements) of the college, GVR Murthy said that TCS had given the best project award for this solar project. The students had designed the project under the supervision of Mechanical Engineering professor Dr V Durga Prasad. He said the TCS had a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SRKR Engineering College and it would announce such awards every year to encourage the students to take up research for the social needs. 
 
The college principal, G Pardhasaradhi Varma said already the solar project had won the silver medal in the national-level competition organised by National Design and Research Forum (NDRF) of the Institution of Engineers (India). 

The principal along with dean, faculty affairs, K Suresh Babu, mechanical engineering head Dr K Brahmaraju, placement officer Venkatesh congratulated the students for their achievement. Koppisetty Sai Teja of mechanical engineering wing awarded the best student by TCS, and the TCS vice-president V Rajanna presented the award to Sai Teja.
