Demand for Special Category Status gets shriller

Ongole: The demand for the Special Category Status to the Andhra Pradesh resonated in Prakasam district since Friday morning. The TDP, Congress, CPI, CPM and the Jana Sena took to streets with hundreds of party workers and supporters raising slogans against the BJP-led Central government for not according the SCS.

The TDP leaders in Ongole, Kotari Krishna, Kommu Ravichandra, Ravuri Padmaja and others participated in the bike rally from the NTR Bhavan and covered most of the streets in the town.

Leaders and activists of the Left and the Jana Sena walked in support of the SCS from the flyover at Kurnool road to Sanghamitra Hospital junction through the Ongole town. The CPI district secretary, ML Narayana said that the SCS was the right of Andhra Pradesh and people of the state need not depend on the sympathy of either prime minister or chief minister.

The CPM east Prakasam secretary Punati Anjaneyulu warned that the BJP, which was not allowing discussion on the no-confidence motion and SCS in Parliament, should be ready to face the wrath of people, who taught a lesson to the Congress in 2014 general elections for dividing the state.

The Congress leaders led by the district president Eda Sudhakar Reddy, who were on relay hunger strike at Collectorate for the last four days, staged a protest on the road as the Parliament adjourned sine die without allowing discussion on no-confidence motion and SCS to Andhra Pradesh.

In Parchuru, the TDP cadre organised a bike rally from the Saibaba Temple to MRO office while the CPI, CPM and Jana Sena leaders participated in the walk demanding the SCS for the state.

In Markapuram, the TDP in-charge Kandula Narayana Reddy held a bike rally from the municipality building through the town streets of Markapuram and Tarlupadu in support of the MPs in Parliament agitating for the SCS.

In Giddalur, Chirala, Darsi also the TDP, CPI, CPM and Jana Sena workers organise the bike rallies and padayatra on the streets of the towns.

In Kondepi, the TDP leaders Damacharla Satya, AMC chairman Ramaiah and others organised a bike rally. In Jarugumalli and Kanigiri also the TDP conducted a bike rally and protests for the SCS for the state.
