Plea to pay compensation to tenant farmers
Eluru: Andhra Pradesh Koulu Rythu Sangham (APKRS) district committee general secretary K Srinivas has requested the government to take up the enumeration of crop losses in the district due to gusty winds and untimely rain and pay compensation to the tenant farmers.
Srinivas, along with APKRS leaders and farmers, met In-charge Collector P Koteswara Rao during Mee Kosam programme and submitted a memorandum.
He detailed the crop losses due to the heavy gales and untimely rains to the In-charge Collector. He said that due to the heavy gales and rain, the maize, mango, cashew, banana, chilli and tobacco crops in thousands of acres were damaged in Devarapalli, Gopalapuram, Polavaram, Koyyalagudem, Jangareddigudem, Kamavarapukota, T Narsapuram, Kukkunuru, Velairpadu and Buttayagudem mandals.
He stated that the crop was ready for harvest during next 10 days when the gales and rain destroyed the hopes of the farmers. A farmer in Pattiseema village in Polavaram mandal died of heart attack with the damage to his crop. He requested the officials to take up the enumeration of crop damage.
He requested the authorities to pay Rs 10,000 per acre to the paddy and Rs 20,000 to commercial crops as compensation. He also suggested to pay the crop insurance irrespective of premium. He requested the officials to pay ex-gratia to the family of deceased farmer.
