Government to construct BC buildings in urban, rural areas

Kakinada: Deputy Chairman of Legislative Council Reddy Subrahmanyam has said the life of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule is ideal for everyone in society.

He participated as the chief guest at 192nd birth anniversary celebrations at Ambedkar Bhavan here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, he reminded that Jyotiba strived hard for the upliftment of the suppressed and weaker classes in society. “It is clear evidence that even after the 192 years, we are here to praise the good deeds of the Jyotiba Phule,” he said.

He informed that Phule had recognised the importance of the education at that time and encouraged women to get education. Jyotiba Phule’s wife Savitri Devi was the first woman teacher in India.

Referring to welfare measures, he announced that the state government had issued orders to construct BC buildings in the state up to the village-level. The government would sanction Rs 10 lakh at village-level, Rs 15 lakh at mandal-level and Rs 50 lakh at municipality-level for the construction of BC buildings. He informed that they were going to construct the BC building at Kakinada at a cost of Rs 5 crore in two acres of land. The government would construct a G plus 2 BC building at Kothapeta.

MLC Chikkala Ramachandra Rao, MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao, District Collector Kartikeya Mishra and Joint Collector Mallikarjuna also spoke at the meeting. They listed out the welfare schemes in progress in the state for the BC community. 

Prior to this, Subrahmanyam garlanded Phule’s portrait and paid the floral tributes.Later, the leaders distributed the bank cheques worth 126.29 crores to 8,160 beneficiaries through BC Corporation.

Joint Collector-2 Radha Krishna Murthy, BC Corporation ED Jyothi, SW DD Sobha Rani and others participated.
