Eluru: The Grama Panchayati workers of Sanivarapupeta Panchayati went on strike on Thursday, demanding that the officials pay their arrears of salaries.

They started their protest at the Panchayati office in Sanivarapupeta in the morning.  They raised slogans with a demand to pay the arrears of three month salaries and the enhanced arrears amount for the last one year. They also wanted implementation of Provident Fund, ESI and other benefits.

CITU Eluru city president B Soimaiah, addressing the striking workers, said that though the Panchayati had plenty of funds, it was not paying the arrears to the workers.
He warned that if the Panchayat failed to pay the arrears of salary, they would stop the water supply ad street lighting.  The leaders, Gorrela Narayana, Laveti Lakshminarayana, Laveti Subba Rao and others led the strike.
