Students advised to avoid using plastic

 Kakinada: The United Nations Development Programme Global Environmental Fund (UNDP GEF) state coordinator T Ravi Shankar advised the students to stop the usage of plastic in their everyday life.

He participated as chief guest in ‘3-K Walk for the Environment’ organised here to mark World Earth Day. He flagged off the walking event at MSN Charities Aided High School in Jagannadhapuram here on Sunday.

Speaking on this occasion, Ravi Shankar informed that every year 1,000 tonnes of plastic products were coming out from the industries in the world. He expressed his concern over the plastic waste stating that it would not dissolve in earth. 

He explained that the plastic has become a major threat for the survival of mankind and for the environment. He informed that the Earth Day’s theme was to end the plastic pollution. He called upon the students to say no to plastic pollution.

School headmaster MS Subrahmanyam said that all the natural calamities and disasters were occurring due to the errors and mistakes made by the mankind.AP Green Corps district coordinator Kesari Srinivasa Rao also spoke at the event.

Later, all the 350 students walked a three-kilometre stretch covering Munsib Junction, Main Road and Jagannadhapuram Bridge up to the Church Square Centre in the city.
Krishnaji (KIET), UNDP volunteer J Eswar Narayana, teachers Srihari Rao Naidu, B Nageswara Rao and others participated.
