Declare Prakasam as backward dist: JCV

Ongole: The Andhra Pradesh unit of Jana Chaitanya Vedika on Monday demanded that the State and Central governments declare Prakasam district as the backward district along with the other seven districts. He announced that a meeting to discuss the development of Prakasam district would be held on April 29.

At a press meet organised by the Jana Chaitanya Vedika state president, V Lakshmana Reddy, retired joint collector Shamsher Ahmed, former DIG Srinivasa Rao, Prakasam District Development Forum president Chunduri Rangarao, Pensioners Association president K Adinarayana and others here on Monday, Lakshmana Reddy demanded that the government extend the Rs 24,000 crore package for backward districts including the Prakasam district.

He said that though the district has 19.5 lakh acres of fertile land, only 14 lakh acres are being cultivated and only 3 lakh acres are having water facility. 

He mentioned that there was not a single industry that was providing employment to more than 1,000 workers in the district and about 729 villages were suffering with fluorosis problem. 

He announced that they were organizing a meeting to discuss the opportunities and development of Prakasam district on April 29, in which the former chief secretary of Andhra Pradesh Ajeya Kallam, MP YV Subbareddy, ZP chairman Edara Haribabu, MLC Y Srinivasa Reddy, former MLC KS Lakshmana Rao, representatives of various parties Eda Sudhakara Reddy, Varikuti Ashok Babu, Punati Anjaneyulu and others participate in it.
