BJP takes up padayatra for Ramayapatnam port

Ongole: The Prakasam district BJP president, PV Krishna Reddy and his party leaders took up a padayatra, demanding that the government construct the port at Ramayapatnam instead of the Dugarajapatnam as mentioned in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill.

Speaking at the Collectorate, Krishna Reddy said that several enquiries and study reports by the government agencies say Dugarajapatnam in Nellore district was not viable economically and technically due to its location. 

He said that those reports mentioned in favour of Ramayapatnam in Prakasam district as it was nearer to the road and rail transport, natural port location and having other advantages. 

He said that construction of port at Ramayapatnam helps the poor and backward Prakasam district in terms of revenue generation, provides employment to the local youth and reduces expenditure to local exporters of galaxy granite and other minerals. He also mentioned that the port would also helps the neighboring Guntur district for exports of spices, chilli and others.
