Lifestyle changes lead to infertility: Survey
Vijayawada: About 2.51 crore couples have been suffering from infertility in India due to lifestyle changing habits, informed Oasis co-founder Dr Durga Rao, quoting a national family health survey held recently.
“These lifestyle changes include late marriages, delay in child bearing, rising alcohol and tobacco consumption and obesity problems, besides poly-cystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), tuberculosis, endometriosis,” he said.
An Artificial Reproductive Techniques Conclave was organised in association with Vijayawada Obesity and Gynecology Society (VOGSH) here on Sunday.
Briefing the media on the occasion, Dr Durga Rao said workshops were organised on ART conclave to train clinicians from across the state on male infertility and hysteroscopy to enable the clinicians to get comprehensive knowledge from surgical perspective.
Clinical embryologist Krishna Chaitanya said that there was a wrong notion that infertility clinics were meant only for treating women. He said that it was important that male infertility was evaluated completely when a couple come forward for fertility treatment.
Clinical head Dr Sujatha said that there was about 40 to 45 male fertility issues in Vijayawada in the last decade which was due to the genetic disorders, obesity, environmental pollution, lifestyle issues, stress and exposure to pesticides.
