Kakinada: The East Godavari fisheries department geared up for distribution of aid to fisher folk for the two-month fishing ban period.Every year, the fishing ban takes place during breeding season from April 15 to June 14 (for two months period).

Except the traditional craft, the mechanised and motored boats would not be allowed to venture into sea for fishing during this period.

The fisheries department in the present season  identified 24,000 fishermen from 800 plus mechanised motored  boats which venture into sea from Kakinada urban Vakalapudi,  Uppada, Kothapalli, Ameenabad,  I Polavaram, Odalarevu, Antervedi, Bhairavapalem, Katrenikona and other landing centers.

The fisheries department would pay an amount of Rs 4,000 to each of the identified fishermen eligible for compensation.

East Godavari Joint Director of Fisheries P Jaya Rao said that the process of finalising the list of beneficiaries was being finalised after crosschecking the identity of these fishermen with Aadhar and the identity cards issued by fisheries department. “We pay the amounts directly into the bank account of the beneficiary to avoid the role of middlemen receiving the compensation,” the JD clarified.
