NGOs want Centre to accord SCS to state
Ongole: The Prakasam district unit of AP Non Gazetted Officers Association staged a protest in front of the district Collectorate and demanded that the Central government accord Special Category Status to the state immediately by keeping its promise.
The district unit president of the association, Bandi Srinivasa Rao said that the Union government was negligent in implementing the bifurcation act.
He demanded that the Central government show its commitment for the welfare of Andhra Pradesh by giving the share and waivers, which were due legally to the state. The NIMZ, Railway Zone, industrial corridor, funds for the capital etc should be provided to the state immediately. Responding to the allegations against their state president P Ashok Babu, Srinivasa Rao said that the BJP was highlighting a small incident, but forgetting the help it had taken from Ashok Babu in the Vizag MP election.
The district secretary, K Sarath Babu said that the Union government was showing step-motherly love towards the state, after coming into power by promising the development of Andhra Pradesh. It was not releasing enough funds for projects like Polavaram, alleged Sarath. He warned the Union government with serious consequences, if it continue to shower sops to only northern states and neglect the southern states.
The other leaders from association, A Swamulu, K Raj Kumar, P Chenchaiah, RCH Krishnareddy, R Punnaiah, Evangeline, P Madhavi, K Lakshmi Rajyam and others also participated in the protest.
