Great work of Dr KL Rao remembered

 Vijayawada: Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao garlanded the statue of Dr KL Rao at Durga Ghat in connection with the death anniversary of the noted engineer here on Friday.

The minister recalled that KL Rao was water resources and electricity department minister and his effort to bring Khosla committee for the Nagarjuna Sagar Project was admirable. He said that Rao, had initiated many projects as minister and wrote many books on Structural Engineering. The minister said that the world had recognised Rao as an efficient engineer to construct mega projects and dams.

He recalled that Dr KL Rao, Sir Arthur Cotton, Mokshagundam Visveswaraya and Sri Ramakrishnaiah birth anniversaries were celebrated as state festivals, he added.
He said that water will be supplied by June to the farmers  through gravity. He said that a massive march will be organised at Polavaram in August with one Lakh people. 

He said that between November to March the erection of gates of Polavaram project would be undertaken. He said that Detailed Project Report was ready for construction of the barrage at Vykunthapuram with 10 tmc capacity. He said that steps will be taken to ensure that Prakasam Barrage is strong enough for the next one hundred years.
