Meet urges people to protect girl child

Vijayawada: A one-day workshop on implementation of Pre-conception and Pre- Natal Diagnostic Technique Act (PCPNDT) and ‘Beti Padhav Bati Bachav’ was held here on Wednesday.  AP Women Commission Chairperson Nannapaneni Raja Kumari participated as the chief guest.

Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights organised the workshop.  Addressing the gathering, Raja Kumari said that the government and the private hospitals were strictly following the PCPNDT Act almost perfectly. However, the problem starts after the birth of baby girl. She recalled that women and girls were advancing in all the sectors.

Child Rights Commission chairperson G Hymavathi said that this platform had given a good chance to discuss child rights.Women and Child Welfare Commissioner H Arun Kumar said that the sexual abuse cases were increasing in the state. To avoid such cases, all the departments need to take action in coordination.

Additional DGP PV Sunil Kumar said everyone should be alert on the issues happening in their surroundings and should alert the concerned departments to help save the girl child.

Guntur DSP Saritha said that all the departments should create awareness on both acts.  
State Child Rights Commission members, police officials, Health Department officers, NGO organizers and others were present.
