Vigilance and Enforcement department identifies tax evasion of 168 cr

Anantapur: Local Vigilance and Enforcement SPPAnil Babu has said  that the staff of the wing will continue their vigil this year also against adulteration, illegal constructions, tax-evasion besides incidents in the SC, ST and BC welfare hostels.

Addressing the media at his office here on Monday, AnilBabu listed the department’s achievements during the 2017 calendar year and the plans for 2018. In 2017 the department identified tax evasion in the Commercial Taxeswas Rs.90.28 crore, development levy Rs.70.48 crore, natural resources wing Rs.8.14 crore.

Notices for recovery of the evaded tax of Rs.26.88 crore(Commercial Taxes), Rs.124.10 crore(development levy), Rs.2.83 crore (natural resources) were served. So far Rs.6.81 crore(Commercial Taxes), Rs.18.11 crore (development levy) and Rs.3.99 crore(natural resources) have been deposited with the department. Besides, he said, Rs.4.72 crore was collected after conducting 594 checks of vehicles on highways.

During 79 searches on FP shops in 2017, as many as 45 were seized. Searches were conducted in 11 mandal-level stock points, 23 mills and other trade bodies. As many as 63 criminal cases were registered under the Essential Commodities Act.

PDS rice weighing 3,656 quintals worth Rs.1.05 crore, pulses, groundnut seeds, sugar, wheat flour, fertilisers, pesticides, 26,674 litres of cooking oil valued at Rs.12 lakh and kerosene were among the items seized by the department.

Among those present at the press conference were DSP Mahbub Basha, CIs Srinivas Reddy, Reddappa, SIs Ramakrishna, SankarBabu, DCTOs Chennayya, SubbaReddy, ACTOs JeelanBasha, FRO Venkataramana, DE Ravindra Kumar and AE Eshwarayya.
