6 houses gutted in fire accident

##BIG-IMAGE##Narsapuram: Six thatched houses gutted in a fire accident at Kotha Colony in Narsapur town on Tuesday morning. According to fire department officials, a fire broke out in a thatched house in the 22nd ward of Kotha Colony in the morning around 10.30 am. There were several thatched houses nearby the house that caught fire.

The local people who watched the smoke from the house immediately called the fire officials and plunged themselves into action to control the flames that engulfed the other houses. The fire tenders reached the spot and controlled the flames. However, before the fire officials reached the spot, six thatched houses were reduced to ashes.

About 12 families were residing in these six thatched houses and all were daily labourers. The mishap occurred when all the inmates went to their work. The inmates of three houses kept Rs 3 lakh in cash to construct houses. Gold ornaments were also burnt in the fire mishap along with cash. All the utensils in these houses were completely burnt, according to fire officials.

The cause of fire is suspected to be short circuit of power cables.  On Information, Narsapur MLA Bandaru Madhava Naidu, Municipal Chairperson Pasupuleti Ratnamala and Sub-Collector Sumit Kumar Gandhi reached the Kotha Colony and consoled the victims. The MLA and Sub-Collector assured the victims of all assistance from the Government. They assured to distribute rice and Rs 5,000 cash to the victim families each.
