Amaravati Marathon on Jan 7

Vijayawada: Commissioner of Police, D Gowtam Sawang said on Tuesday the third edition of the Amaravati Marathon will be on January 7 from the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium here.

Addressing a media conference at his chambers, the CP said, “The mega marathon would be divided into two parts, that is, the 10K Race and 5K Fun Run. The event would be conducted in association with DEEP Trust, various Government departments and NGOs. He said that the race would begin at 6 am on Sunday from the stadium and would move towards Prakasam Barrage.

The CP along with Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tata Kanti Rana, inaugurated the T-shirts for the Amaravati Marathon. He said that the Chief Minister, Nara Chandrababu Naidu is likely to attend the event. He said the Amaravati Marathon would reflect the spirit, enthusiasm and energy of the people of the capital and added that the two Marathons conducted twice earlier evoked a huge response.

He asked the participants to collect the running bibs and race kits one day in advance on Saturday from the IGMC stadium. He further said all runners would have to register by Sunday for a hassle-free event.

Race Director Dr Murali Nannepenani said the Amaravati Marathon 2018 would be conducted to bring the sport of running to the capital area and to encourage an active lifestyle among the people there by increasing physical literacy of the state. He said the participants could register their names in the website-- www.amaravatimarathon.run.
