Kanigiri: First of its kind in Andhra Pradesh, a Sunday story learning and activity school is opened in Kanigiri by name, Kaki Pitchuka School. The school works on the Zilla Parishad Girls High School premises and involves students in storytelling, sports and games on holidays.

Since the earlier times, older people in joint families use to take care of children in the house. Even with the parents away, the elders would succeeded in inculcate good values in children with tales depending on the need, mood and situation of the children, thereby encouraging ethical living since childhood. The crux of these stories usually revolved around an unethical person and the turmoil that they undergo until they mend their ways.

With an inclusion of technology into nuclear families, the age-old practice of the elders letting the children play outdoor games to keep fit and occupied has disappeared. As times change, families have become detached from joint families and the children run a never-ending race towards schools, tuitions, marks and grades.

To make a difference in children, Ideal Computers in Kanigiri has introduced Kaki Pitchuka School. The Nagar Panchayat Chairman, Shaik China Mastan inaugurated the school on the premises of Zilla Parishad Girls High School in town.

BJV Praveen, director of the school said, “The children are busy nowadays either in schools and tuitions or in front of TV and playing games on mobiles. The nuclear family setup is not helping the children learn ethics even at home as the parents are unable to find the time. Our school is the first school of its kind in the state that addresses this issue.

We run the school on holidays for half-a-day in the ZP Girls High School to make the kids learn through their participation in games and story sessions. We have appointed coaches for badminton, chess, tennis and other indoor and outdoor games.

As there will be 120 official holidays in the year for the students, Kaki Pitchuka School aims to make those days productive and fun for the kids.” The school is open for admissions for students in classes from LKG to Class VII and is going to charge Rs 200 per month towards the purchase of games equipment.
