Remote sensing tech proving to be a boon to mankind: Prof Dikshitulu

Kakinada: The former director of National Remote Sensing Center and Padmasri awardee, Professor B L Dikshitulu said that remote sensing was a science which helps in many ways to the humans. He also said that it helps in acquiring the information about the earth’s surface.

He participated as a chief guest of the guest lecture meeting on ‘Remote Sensing and Some Societal Applications’ which was held at the JNTU Alumni Auditorium organised jointly by the Yedla Seshayya and Gangabai Memorial Trust here on Friday.

Speaking on this occasion, Scientist Dikshitulu said that the role of remote sensing was priceless in smart city construction. He informed that with the help of the remote sensing mobile mapping, mobile GPS, location-based services can be accelerated.

He said with this tech one could know the intensity of the earthquakes, wildfires, cyclones and floods and also the chlorophyll percentage in water. Dikshitulu further told that with the help of remote sensing, the revenue department could accurately measure the losses which occurred due to natural calamities.

JNTU Vice-Chancellor VSS Kumar suggested the students grasp the latest trends and skills in the technology. The VC appreciated the Yedla trust’s works. JNTU directors, UCEK Principal Prasada Raju, NSS Coordinator K Sri Kumar, YSSG Trustees YedlaVenkata Sastry, Sudhakar and others participated.
