AP govt introduces new toddy policy
Amaravati: The AP Government released new Toddy Policy for the period of 2017-2022.In this policy, the government allowed the toddy tappers to sell their products in 100 kms radius against the previous limit of 50 kms radius. It also decided not to collect annual rent from toddy tappers.
In addition to that, the state government proposed to grow palmyra palm trees and other varieties of palm on the coast of AP, explained Tata Jaya Prakash Narayana, Chairman, AP Toddy Tappers Finance Corporation in a press conference at Secretariat here on Tuesday.
He said that the new policy would grant right to sell toddy to Tappers Cooperative Society and Tree For Tappers and to the STs in scheduled areas for next five years.
The Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise will fix the number of toddy shops based on the requirement and of respective areas. The collection of toddy rents, which is Rs. 25 per tree in rural areas and Rs. 50 per tree in urban areas per annum, is abolished, he explained.
