Man sets himself on fire in front of police station in Visakhapatnam

An accused in a murder case attempted suicide in front of Pendurthi police station in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.

The man identified as Mahalakshmi Naidu doused himself with petrol and set himself ablaze. 

The victim ran across the road, shrieking loudly as the flames rose and the passersby came to his rescue by putting out the fire.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. 

According to the reports, Naidu had bashed his wife's head, killing her on the spot, in October last year and was jailed. However, he was later released on bail. 

He has two kids, who are staying with their maternal grandparents and his in-laws are learned to be harassing him to register some lands and plots in the name of his children. 

Police suspect that due to the pressure, he might have attempted suicide.
