PhD holders’ get-together

Visakhapatnam: A get-together of all PhD holders in nuclear physics of Andhra University was held at the Department of Nuclear Physics, Andhra University. Nuclear Physics department was established by Prof Swami Jnanananda in 1954.

In all, 150 researchers acquired doctoral degrees so far. Out of 150 researchers, 35 members both working as well as retired from various institutions in the country and abroad participated in this event.

It was heartening to see that the gathering included some senior members, who occupied responsible positions in reputed educational, scientific and administrative establishments. They shared their experiences with young researchers.

All members recalled fondly their memories of the days spent in the department and narrated how the valuable training they received in the department helped them excel in the institutions they worked.

Dr Ayyagari Lakshmana Rao revealed that how a PhD in nuclear physics helped him to start a career in software industry in ECIL, from where he went on to occupy the position of chief operating officer in Wipro.

He was instrumental in establishing a Wipro unit in Visakhapatnam. Participants decided to meet periodically and pledged to provide necessary support to improve the facilities in the department.
