CPM leaders taken into custody
Guntur: Police took Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretary Pasam Rama Rao, party leaders KakamanuNageswaraRao and Krishnakanth into preventive custody and later they were shifted to Nallapadu police station. In this connection it may be noted that two groups in Gottipadu villageunder Pattipadumandal in Guntur district clashed on the occasion of new year celebration.
In this connection, CPI(M) state secretary PMadhu planned to visit Gottipadu village to solve the problem in the party circle. But groups continued their clashes. When tension prevailed in the village, the police set up police pickets and peace committees were formed to restore normalcy in the village.
Meanwhile, Section144 was in force in the village. The South DSP RVSN Murthy informed that leaders and activists of the political parties, associations will not be allowed into Gottipadu village and warned that they would take stern action against those who would make provocative statements or violate the orders of the police officials.
