Cockfight: Roosters for sale in Olx, Organisers turn tech savvy

 Bhimavaram: E-commerce has become a boon for cockfight organisers in Andhra Pradesh as they woo customers and enthusiasts with roosters online. Despite ban on cockfighting, cocks and roosters are put up for sale in OLX, e-commerce and other classified websites. 

Cockfights have been part of tradition in Sankranthi festivities in Andhra and some parts of Karnataka state. However, the cockfights are conducted in most of the villages in East and West Godavari districts.  

The sellers are from various locations in Bhimavaram, Vijayawada, Kadapa, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Guntur, Nellore and Prakasam districts. The prices range between Rs 2,000 to as much as Rs 25,000. However, some of the organisers claim that they have not trained their roosters for cockfight and they had only fed them with good diet. Rather going far off place to buy roosters, the online organisers say that they would deliver the cocks to door steps if booked online.
