Minsters, MLAs take part in Sankranti Sambaralu

Anantapur: A galaxy of government officials and people's representatives and the general public participated in the Sankranti Sambaralu held at the district police grounds with lot of enthusiasm and religious fervour here on Sunday.

Women and Child Welfare Minister Paritala Sunitha and Information and Rural Housing Minister Kalava Sreenivas expressed their greetings to the people on the occasion. They have said that the government successfully diverted Krishna river waters to the district and filled all the major and minor  tanks which are instrumental in recharging bore-wells. 

Farmers have every reason to celebrate this Sankranti with excitement as water table in the district has considerably increased and there is enough water to irrigate their agriculture crops and horticulture plantations, the leaders said. 

The ministers also gave away awards to best and model farmers in agriculture and horticulture crops and felicitated model farmers. Local MLA V Prabhakar Choudhury, in his presidential address, has said that he was overwhelmed with joy to see everyone attired in traditional clothes. The celebrations, he said, reflected the original Telugu culture with its pristine beauty.

Minister Sunitha, with keen interest, watched the Rangoli competitions in which large number of women participated. She congratulated them for adding colour to the festival celebrations. She later left to her native village of Venkatapuram and participated in festivities and cultural events in the village.

Superintendent of Police G V G Ashok Kumar, Mayor Swaroopa, Dharmavaram MLA G Suryanarayana and ZP Chairman P Nagaraju and JC-2 Sayed Khaja Mohiddin, DRO Raghunath and Trainee collector Venkatesh were among those who participated in the celebrations.
