Officials heave a sigh of relief

Rajamahendravaram: The police and revenue officials heaved a sigh of relief with the conclusion of three-day Sankranti festival on Tuesday in a peaceful manner.  The officials of two departments warned the cockfight organisers following court orders and but later maintained silence because of mounting pressure on them from all quarters.

Even in the home turf of Deputy Chief Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa, the cockfights were conducted on a massive scale. With the end of three-day festivities, the cockfight organisers have closed their tents and punters returned to their places, who also came from far off places and now the arenas wore a deserted look. This time many women also witnessed the blood sport in the district.
