Four employees of a weekly arrested
Guntur: Tenali police on Wednesday arrested four persons working in a weekly functioning from Vijayawada and threatening youth doing online business to pay Rs 30 lakh for not paying tax to the government.
The accused threatened that they would publish news items against them if the amount was not paid. According to Tenali Two Town Sub-Inspector Kranti Kiran, a youth Sunil started online business in Lecturers Colony in Tenali town. Another 20 youth were also employed in the
company.
Sunil told police that Krishna Rao came from Vijayawada and claimed that he was working in a weekly which is being published in Vijayawada. He discussed with him on GST and questioned about GST payment.
Later, Soujanya, editor of the weekly, spoke from Vijayawada and demanded payment of Rs 30 lakh. She warned that if they did not pay the amount, they would publish news items against them. Sunil agreed to pay the amount and informed the matter to the police.
When they came to the company to collect the amount, the police arrested Krishna Rao, Soujanya, Naresh and Prasad and produced them in court. The four were remanded to custody.
