Girijana Praja Samakya opposes Boyas’ inclusion in ST list
Anantapur: The Girijana Praja Samakya (GPS) plans to organise an agitation to oppose the inclusion of Boyas into STs. Samakya state president G Mallikarjuna Naik says that the move to include Boyas in the ST category is a political ploy which was aimed to benefit TDP.
It will render injustice to Girijans, he said. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Naik said, “the constitutionally guaranteed reservations for the Scheduled Tribes were being watered down by the ruling TD government by announcing inclusion of Boyas into STs.
This measure of the government will neutralise the benefits of Girijan tribes and the Boyas would corner all the benefits of the STs.” The STs would be adversely affected on the education front particularly in the admissions of medicine and engineering courses and in jobs.
The Boyas who are more developed than the STs would use the ST tag to get top positions and dominate the original tribes, they contend. The TDP government, by making such announcements, has been creating chaos among the caste groups and dividing the communities, Naik said.
The Samakya gave a call for “Girijana Shankaravam” on January 27at the local Arts College where its national president V Shankar Naik would address the ST communities, who are expected to gather in large numbers from all over the state.Naik says that the government is indulging in dirty politics just to gain a few seats in a couple of districts. This will be opposed tooth and nail, he added.
