Kurnool: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) party president Asaduddin Owaisi wanted Centre to draft legislation against husbands abandoning their wives than pursuing legislation against triple talaq.

He addressed a meeting organised by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board on the ``evil effects of Modi government’s move on triple talaq’’ at Osmania College ground here on Friday evening.  On the occasion, he said that the bill would lead to further exploitation of married Muslim women. He described the Muslim Women Bill, 2017 as punitive.

YSRCP Kurnool in-charge MD Hafeez Khan said that the bill would rob the basic safety cover from the Muslim women and it has the potentiality to cause more harm to married women.

There is no triple talaq practised in the Indian conditions. It is inappropriate to say that divorce was granted just in a wink by uttering the three
prohibited words, he said.

He sought to explain that Triple Talaq Bill was against the interests of the Muslim women and would  make the issue further vulnerable. He urged the Prime Minister not to interfere in the institution of marriage zealously protected by time-tested religious arrangements.
