Ayesha Meera’s mother hails High Court directive
Vijayawada: Shamshad Begum, mother of Ayesha Meera, a pharmacy student, who was found murdered under suspicious circumstances at a hostel in 2007, welcomed the decision of the High Court directing the police department to investigate the case with Special Investigative Team (SIT) and submit the report by April 28.
Speaking to the media here on Friday, Shamshad Begum expressed confidence that the justice will be done if the case is investigated under the direct monitoring of the High Court. She also said that it was second case in the country as the High Court had directed for inquiry second time. She also thanked the people who have been supporting them in the fight for justice.
City police submits documents to SIT
However, the city police will have no role in the inquiry. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) will conduct the investigation under the supervision of the High Court. It may be recalled that the state government had already constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Visakhapatnam Range DIG Ch Srikanth. The other members in the team are DSPs Himavathi and Srilakshmi and Inspector Md Saharunnissa Begum.
The home department of Andhra Pradesh has issued the GO on August 4, 2017 towards SIT formation. However, there had been not much progress in the case. In this backdrop, the High Court direction assumed significance. The same SIT will continue investigation under the supervision of High Court.
Vijayawada city police joint commissioner BV Ramana Kumar speaking to The Hans India said that the city has handed over all the details of case, including CDs and reports to special investigative team. The SIT will conduct the probe and if they ask anything more, they are ready to submit, he said.
Minority organisations react positively
The Minority Organisations reacted positively on the High Court fiat. United Muslims Front founder president Habeeb-ur-Rehman said the High Court should do justice to the family members of Ayesha Meera. Stating that the real culprits should be punished, he hoped that the High Court has provided one more opportunity to the government to do justice in the case.
