Tirupati: A degree final year student kept secret her pregnancy issue in TTD affiliated SP woman degree college hostel here. The student gave birth to a child here two weeks ago and subsequently her parents took her to their native place in Guntur district.

However, the TTD authorities issued memos to hostel warden and three other staff members for neglecting their duties and not taking proper care of hostel maintenance.

The student who belongs to Jonnagddda village in Guntur district is an inmate at SPW college hostel in Tirupati for the last three years. Two weeks ago, she had informed the hostel authorities that she was suffering from stomach pain.

Following her complaint, hostel warden sent the student for treatment to TTD central hospital. On conducting medical examination, the doctors declared the girl student as pregnant. Subsequently, the student was admitted to a private nursing home and she gave birth to a child. The hostel staff passed on the information to her parents.

However, TTD higher authorities took the issue seriously and served memos to warden Kumari, deputy wardens Vidulatha, Sirisha and matron Kavamma on Thursday. Devasthanam Deputy Educational Officer Ramachandra asked them to give an explanation immediately.

The student kept secret her pregnancy issue until she reached the advanced stage of pregnancy. Following this, the TTD authorities opined that the hostel staff members were negligent in discharge of their duties and taking proper care of hostel maintenance.

Along with TTD DyEO’s action, vigilance officials also sent a probe report to JEO Tirupati on SPW hostel student’s pregnancy issue. According to TTD Additional Chief Vigilance officer Sivakumar Reddy, the student had an affair with her close relative and she liked him.

However, she did not inform her parents over her affair. Hiding her pregnancy, the student informed her roommates that she was suffering from thyroid problem and hence she was gaining weight. After her delivery, her parents came to Tirupati and took their daughter and the infant to their native village in Guntur district.
