‘Judges not being appointed following a proper system’
Guntur: Senior advocates felt that there should be transparency in the judicial system and it should be accountable to people. The senior advocates met on Saturday in Guntury city under the aegis of All India Lawyers‘ Association and discussed on ‘Recent Happenings in the Supreme Court of India- Administration of Justice.’
Speaking on this occasion, former Judge of High Court Justice K G Shankar said judiciary is working to protect the Constitution and Law and felt that there were some lapses in the judiciary. Judges are not being appointed following a proper system, he said.
He opined that advocates representing some castes were not being considered while appointments of Judges are made to High Courts and the Supreme Court. He said representatives of various castes should be given equal priority in appointment of Judges.
MLC and advocate Dokka Manikya Varaprasad expressed concern over increasing corruption in the judiciary than other government departments. He said the accused belonging to SC, ST, BC and minorities were not getting bails in criminal cases in courts. He felt that there is need to check corruption in judiciary and added that corrupt politicians were spending money in the polls to get elected. KLU Law College Prof. N Rangaiah pointed out that the Constitution is applicable to judges also. AILU state general secretary Narra Srinivasa Rao presided over the meeting.
