Maris Stella College to host exhibition on inscriptions

Vijayawada: The department of Sanskrit of Maris Stella College will organise a two-day national workshop-cum-exhibition on Sanskrit Epigraphy in collaboration with Archaeological Survey of India, (Epigraphy), Mysuru and the Department of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Andhra Pradesh, on January 23 and 24.

College principal Dr Sr Rekha said eminent people from across the country will participate in the workshop-cum- exhibition.

She said more than one lakh inscriptions were discovered from various parts of the country so far. Out of available inscriptions, 90 per cent were in Sanskrit starting from 3rd century AD to 17th century AD, she added.

Sanskrit HoD Dr D Ramakrishna said Sanskrit was the language of inscriptions in India and neighbouring Asian countries like Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia and Indonesia. Inscriptions provide the history, culture, tradition, administration, management and human relations, he added.

He said the workshop would create awareness on inscriptions in Sanskrit literature, he added. A brochure was released on the occasion.
