Traffic woes remain unresolved in Srikakulam
Srikakulam: Redressing the traffic issue in Srikakulam city has become a headache to police due to non-cooperation of municipal officials and political pressure in support of the traders and hawkers.
Moreover, the main shops owners are giving the footpath space available in front of their shops to petty vendors for rent on a daily payment basis on the main roads like GT Road, Surya Mahal Road, Chinna Bazar Road and Kalinga Road, Though, the municipal officials are aware about illegal letting out of space but they are turning a blind eye as they are being managed with bribes by the shops owners.
As a result, the people are suffering. It is alleged that even the traffic police are hand-in-glove with shop owners. After confirming the facts prima-facie, Superintendent of Police CM Trivikrama Varma started personal monitoring. Though traffic woes are yet to be resolved on the congested roads, the officials of the municipal corporation remain totally indifferent.
“We are regulating traffic by deploying policemen at all junctions under our purview,” Superintendent of Police Trivikrama Varma told The Hans India. “We are facing opposition from the petty vendors,” In-Charge Commissioner for Srikakulam Municipal Corporation G Venkateswar Rao said.
