The CSIR laboratories across the country will display deployable technologies in the event. Those who recently graduated or about to graduate and alumni in any discipline with management, science or engineering as basic subjects can participate in the programme.

A major change in the job market has been noticed in recent times with the rise of start-ups and students tendency to choose entrepreneurship over service. Most of them tend to choose IT-based ideas as they are exposed to opportunities in the field of science and technology.

Providing access to readily available and commercially viable science and technology solutions will enable students to make a right choice for a start-up.

The CSIR has taken a new initiative to provide these students with a bunch of S& T solutions developed by the laboratories that address the needs of society and commonman and engage them as stakeholders for effective translation of knowledge from laboratory to market, said Prof KVenkata Subbaiah, dean, research and development, Andhra University.

CSIR-IICT has conceived a programme entitled “Be an Entrepreneur of S and T- BEST” in collaboration with NGOs, NRDC and CSIR headquarters for effective deployment of relevant CSIR technologies in rural areas of AP and Telangana states.

The programme involves an awareness campaign of technologies at various universities followed by selection of potential candidates and subject them to grooming classes on technical and business management aspects followed by mentoring the entrepreneurs for start-up and incubation with financial assistance from Mudra agencies, Venkata Subbaiah said.

“As many as 60 candidates will be chosen on predetermined criteria and they will receive personal guidance from mentors who are industry experts and will be hand held till they set up an immediate start-up on their own.

Besides the lecture sessions on concepts by the chosen faculty, the participants will work on case studies relevant to end objective of creating a compelling value proposition through a robust business plan. The duration of programme is three-weeks,” Venkata Subbaiah said.
